TITLE:                                                              Playground/Crossing Guard Aide

                                                                      

 

JOB GOAL:                                                   To provide safety to the students of the district as they go to and from school and home in the designated crossing zones.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:                              High School Graduate, GED, or previous experience in traffic safety, or the exhibited desire and ability to perform the required duties.  Fluency in speaking Spanish preferred.

 

TYPE:                                                             Non-exempt

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Set up and take down crossing guard signs and equipment used in the crossing of district students.

  2. Wear appropriate safety gear while performing assigned duties.

  3. Stop traffic in an appropriate manner which meets state and district guidelines and district training.

  4. Control district students as they wait to cross and during crossing.

  5. Report problems with students to the Director of Transportation and/or the Principal and complete all required paperwork.

  6. Ensure that all traffic has stopped completely before allowing district students to leave the curb to cross streets.

  7. Assume responsibility for and secure the district assigned keys which are assigned to you for your job use and safekeeping.

  8. Listen to, understand and carry out oral and written instructions and directives, and respond with oral and written reports as required.

  9. Maintain good personal cleanliness and dress appropriately for the position.

  10. Practice good public relations techniques with students, staff, administration and parents, demonstrating a cordial and friendly manner.

  11. Work efficiently and cooperatively with other staff members.

  12. Practice regular and consistent attendance, arriving and departing at the designated times for your position.

  13. Perform all duties and assignments and use materials and operate equipment in a safe and responsible manner, using all safety equipment or clothing which might be reasonable to ensure the safety of self, fellow employees and students.

  14. Attend classes, in-services and seminars as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in services, equipment, materials and functions as they pertain to the district’s needs.

  15. Perform emergency tasks as needed and directed.

  16. Refrain from the use of inappropriate, obscene or foul language.

  17. Assist in all safety programs, drills and evacuation proceedings as required.

  18. Maintain in good condition and store for safekeeping all property, supplies and materials of the district.

  19. Maintain district security by locking all doors and gates for which you are responsible, being on campus only during reasonable hours, and reporting to the Head Custodian, Director of Maintenance, Business Manager or Superintendent any problems with locks, lighting, windows, utilities, etc.

  20. Assist in keeping the district campuses clean and orderly.

  21. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance, Business Manager or Superintendent.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to fifty (50) pounds, such as boxes, supplies, etc.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and to interact with the public and other staff.

    The noise level in the work environment is moderate to moderately high during the school day.  There may be periods of recurring stress in the performance of this job.

  3. 4.5 hours a day = 22.5 hours a week (split shift) 
  4. Personal/sick leave accrual after 60 day period
  5. Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)
