TITLE: District Nurse

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Programs

 

PURPOSETo provide for the medical needs of the district’s students and to maintain good health practices in the school system.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide health-related services for the district’s students and staff.
  2. Have a working knowledge of, and keep administration informed of, school health guidelines and regulations.
  3. Conduct or assist in providing health instruction for students and staff.
  4. Assist with student registrations in regard to immunizations and health concerns.
  5. Perform vision and hearing evaluations on the district’s students as regulations require.
  6. Complete annual reports for each site regarding vision and hearing screenings and vaccinations. 
  7. Administer first aid as needed to the district’s students and staff.
  8. Administer medications and treatments to the district’s students and staff in accordance with the district’s policies and procedures, and in accordance with all state laws.
  9. Conduct interviews and home visits as required to effectively service the students of the district.
  10. Monitor and provide services to students with physical disabilities or special needs as required.
  11. Communicate as needed with school and district administrators, instructional staff, regarding special instructions or needs of the district’s students.
  12. Maintain an inventory of supplies for bloodborne pathogens and first aid kits for the health center offices, classrooms, school buses, etc.
  13. Prepare and maintain all required records and paperwork on students, on daily first aid performed, on daily medications dispensed, and all additional records required.
  14. Keep secure and sanitized all health supplies and equipment, and maintain an orderly and clean health facility.
  15. Assist in the development and implementation of the district’s emergency evacuation plans.
  16. In collaboration with site leadership, oversee, instruct, and monitor the work of the school health office clerk and other health office employees and volunteers. 
  17. Attend classes, clinics, in-services and seminars as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in health laes, services, requirements and functions as they pertain to district needs.
  18. Perform all duties and assignments and use materials and operate equipment in a safe and responsible manner, using all safety equipment or clothing which might be reasonable to ensure the safety of self, fellow employees and students.
  19. Perform emergency tasks as needed and directed.
  20. Assume responsibility for and secure the district assigned keys which are assigned to you for your job use and safekeeping.
  21. Listen to, understand and carry out oral and written instructions and directives, and respond with oral and written reports as required.
  22. Maintain good personal cleanliness and dress appropriately for the position.
  23. Practice good public relations techniques with students, staff, administration and parents, demonstrating a cordial and friendly manner.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to fifty (50) pounds, such as boxes, supplies, etc.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and to interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to moderately high during the school day.  There may be periods of recurring stress in the performance of this job.

 

This position requires the employee to drive within the district from one campus to another on a regular basis.
