TITLE: District Athletic Director

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

 

COMPENSATION: $10,000 annual stipend 

 

PURPOSE

The Athletic Director for the Buckeye Elementary School District is responsible for overseeing all athletic programs and activities for students. This role involves coordinating sports teams, managing facilities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and promoting sportsmanship and teamwork among student-athletes. Additionally, the Athletic Director supervises the school site directors for each of the district campuses, providing guidance and support to ensure the effective implementation of athletic programs at each site.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be a current BESD Employee
  2. Valid AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  3. Valid AZ Teaching Certificate or greater (preferred)
  4. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for athletic events and meetings as needed.
  5. Previous experience in coaching, athletic administration, or related roles, preferably at the middle school level (preferred).
  6. Strong knowledge of sports rules, regulations, and safety standards.
  7. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  8. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, coaches, and community members.
  9. Proficiency in budget management, scheduling software, and athletic administration tools.
  10. Commitment to promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development among student-athletes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic program for grades 6-8 that aligns with the district's mission and goals.
  2. Coordinate the scheduling of athletic events, practices, and competitions, taking into account facility availability and transportation needs.
  3. Recruit, hire, and supervise coaches for various sports teams, ensuring they possess the necessary qualifications and adhere to district policies and procedures.
  4. Provide guidance and support to the school site directors for each of the 9 campuses in the effective implementation of athletic programs, including budget management, facility usage, and compliance with safety regulations.
  5. Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and parents to promote the importance of athletics in students' overall development.
  6. Manage the budget for the athletic program, including expenses for equipment, uniforms, officials, and transportation.
  7. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and risk management protocols for all athletic activities and facilities.
  8. Organize and conduct meetings, orientations, and training sessions for coaches, student-athletes, and parents to foster a positive and supportive athletic environment.
  9. Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, youth leagues, and sports clubs to enhance opportunities for student participation in athletics.
  10. Evaluate the effectiveness of the athletic program and implement improvements based on feedback from stakeholders and best practices in the field.
  11. Serve as a liaison between the district, athletic conference, and governing bodies for interscholastic sports, representing the interests of the district and advocating for student-athletes.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to fifty (50) pounds, such as boxes, supplies, sports equipment and perform other tasks related to athletic program management. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and to interact with the public and other staff.

The work location may vary based on the task including, but not limited to an office, a gym, a field, outdoors in various weather conditions, etc. Travel to various school sites for meetings and events may be required. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to moderately high during any of the athletic events and activities. Driving district fleet may be required to transport students to and from athletic events. Evening hours and weekends may be required based on the athletic events scheduled. There may be periods of recurring stress in the performance of this job.
